{"id":1501,"date":"2016-07-11T20:52:06","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T00:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/design.ncsu.edu\/student-publication\/?p=1501"},"modified":"2020-06-02T09:57:56","modified_gmt":"2020-06-02T13:57:56","slug":"volume-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/academics.design.ncsu.edu\/student-publication\/volume-31\/","title":{"rendered":"Volume 31: Relevance (2005)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"p1\">Relevance<\/h1>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/academics.design.ncsu.edu\/student-publication\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Volume-31-2005.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(Download PDF)<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Volume 31: <em>Relevance<\/em><span class=\"s1\">, <\/span><em><span class=\"s2\">The <\/span>Student Publication of the College of Design<\/em> presents the work of a group of designers who<span class=\"s3\">, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">on <\/span>the <span class=\"s4\">surface, <\/span>fall\u00a0into a number <span class=\"s4\">of <\/span>disparate categories, negotiating issues spanning technology and manufacturing processes<span class=\"s3\">, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">economic class and cul<\/span><span class=\"s5\">t<\/span>ure,\u00a0and environmental design considerations<span class=\"s3\">. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Yet<\/span><span class=\"s1\">, <\/span>all of the contributions to this volume <span class=\"s4\">are <\/span>attempts to determine relevance by <span class=\"s4\">establish<\/span><span class=\"s2\">ing\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">new <\/span>voices and <span class=\"s2\">identif<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ying <\/span>new audiences <span class=\"s4\">ab<\/span><span class=\"s2\">l<\/span><span class=\"s4\">e <\/span>to benefit from the exceptional potentialities of design<span class=\"s1\">. <\/span>Relevance has never been more <span class=\"s4\">dif<\/span>ficult\u00a0to achieve than it is <span class=\"s4\">today <\/span><span class=\"s2\">in <\/span>our increasingly fragmented and <span class=\"s4\">complex society; <\/span>however, we must <span class=\"s4\">continue <\/span>to pursue the question <span class=\"s4\">of\u00a0<\/span>relevance for the sake of those whose l<span class=\"s1\">i<\/span>ves our work impacts directly.
