I went and saw Moana opening week with my family. While watching I felt a slight humor in seeing Campbell’s Hero’s journey strikes again! the journey is our hero lives a normal life. Something causes them to leave, usually something that threatens their daily life. The hero loses, learns, fights again and wins. Then returns home bringing with it the knowledge they have learned to end with a greater appreciation for life, their home and their self.
While I loved the movie, I thought it was interesting that our storytelling techniques are still following the same cues much like you see in music and other forms of media.
