The C-Store Diaries

One of the main problems with grad school life is figuring out lunch. I struggle with Tupperware. I think about my container sitting in the studio fridge, filled to the brim with spaghetti sauce. When I get home, I’ll have to clean it – but it will never really look clean again. There will always be a slight disgustingly pinkish tinge in the corners, in the micro scratches, around lid. At my core, I’m a lazy person with OCD. I also just really hate Tupperware.

So, I rely on the C-Store for my food. It’s wonderful place that stocks all the old faves, like Little Debbie snack packs, Doritos, unhealthy trail mix, and those off-brand gummies that make my mouth hurt. In the spirit of our Research Methods in Design course, I decided to conduct a diary study. Every day this week, I’ll record my purchases at the C-Store and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (?) that led me to make these lunch choices. On Friday, I’ll analyze the data and offer my conclusions. See you on the other side.

Doritos and Coke Zero

Why did I buy these items?

It was a Doritos kind of Friday. I wanted cheese.

What did I buy?

Doritos and Coke Zero

Why did I buy these items?

The sweet aftertaste of the Coke goes really well with the savoryness of the Doritos.

What did I buy?

Doritos and Coke Zero

Why did I buy these items?

I clearly have no self-control.

What did I buy?

Water and Coke Zero

Why did I buy these items?

I couldn’t live with myself if I bought more Doritos.

Conclusions:

Um. I eat terribly. I shouldn’t be allowed to shop at the C-Store. Everything in moderation.

I’m going to go get some fruit now.
